Educational Services

At CABVI, we offer comprehensive services for children with visual impairments from birth through age 21. We provide services to children in the child’s least restrictive environment, in both the home and school settings.

Our team of specialized professionals provide functional vision and compensatory skills training, incorporating concept development, mobility, and use of adaptive aids and low vision devices. Training is provided to parents to arm them with the skills and knowledge so they feel confident in helping their children grow and develop.  School staff receive on-going support from CABVI professionals to ensure their students are successful in the school setting.

At all ages, self-help is a vital component of our Children’s Services. The more children are able to do independently, the better image they have of themselves as they build their future. We strive to increase a child’s independence through:

  • Mastery of alternate methods of learning
  • Development of compensatory skills
  • Efficient use of remaining vision

Early Intervention: Birth- 3 years old

When services are provided soon after a diagnosis, they increase the child’s potential to reach developmental milestones. It is important to bring these experiences to the child by helping them explore their world.

Preschool

The preschool program specifically focuses on concept development, which prepares children for formal schooling. Here, children are encouraged to explore the world by using all of their senses such as: touch, hearing, taste, and smell. Through this, children can learn about their environment, understand it, and navigate it safely.

School Age Services

Our team of specialized professionals serves children in their own school district. Our providers, which consist of Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Vision Rehab Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Adaptive Technology Specialists, work with students at various levels, through various grades.  Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service to allow each child to achieve their highest level of independence.
