Job Title:              Mail Sorter for the DMV

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Provide routine clerical and manual services in the processing and delivery of incoming and outgoing written communications and packages.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be legally blind.  Requires a high level of dependability, professionalism, confidentiality, communication and interpersonal skills.  Must have a positive attitude and the ability to get along with a wide variety of personalities.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS
Pre-sorts and distributes incoming mail.

Use a mail extracting machine to open pre-sorted, incoming mail.

Sort/batch opened mail into appropriate categories for processing.  These categories include DMV registrations, licenses, emissions, driver responsibility assessment payments (DRA’s), overnight and certified mail, odd sized mail with return mail and DMV PO Box mail.

Review each correspondence to ensure accuracy and completeness.  Items under review will include DMV forms, checks for payment to DMV and address of sender.

Sorts outgoing mail so postage can be computed by weight and class.

Operate postage machine.

Maintain records of incoming mail, outgoing mail, and postage.

Adapts to change and completes other duties as assigned by manager.

Consistently achieves daily performance objectives.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, write and speak English.    Must be able to work well with others.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to perform work assignments requiring minimal lifting, turning, stacking and manipulating products.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key job elements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job will be performed at an offsite work location.  No travel.  Occasionally exposed to mechanical parts.  Noise level is moderate to high.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED.  At least one-year experience in clerical setting preferred.
