Facilities Mechanic II

CABVI is seeking a Full-time Facilities Mechanic for our Kent St. location to Coordinate, lead, and complete the maintenance and repairs of the CABVI facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS

  • Practice all safety compliance procedures to protect oneself and all others around them.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment, including machines and material handling equipment.
  • Perform routine building maintenance and repair tasks. Such tasks include, but are not limited to, maintenance and remodeling tasks (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing) and small engines.
  • Plumb air and water lines to code.
  • Run and tie electrical wiring in from switch to power panel 110/120 volts to 208/240-volt electrical lines to code.
  • Travel as needed to trouble shoot, perform repairs, and analyze estimates in all facilities and BSC stores.
  • Build shelving, racking, implant offices, and small structures from wood or steel as needed in CABVI’s facilities and BSC stores.
  • Assist with onboarding new facilities department employees, as requested by management.
  • Install and maintain production machines and plant facilities equipment.
  • Perform light maintenance and repairs on CABVI transportation vehicles, warehouse trucks, grounds equipment.
  • Adapt workstations to enable blind employees to perform jobs more effectively.
  • Maintain work request log and completes work in a timely manner.
  • Train and guide agency employees as identified or requested by facilities management.
  • Respond to and participate in emergency maintenance and snow removal as requested by facilities management.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance and upkeep as needed.
  • Adapt to change and completes all other duties as assigned by facilities management.
  • Consistently achieves annual performance objectives.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must be skillful in presenting information and responding to questions from vendors, customers, and Central Industry employees. Must have good listening skills and ability to effectively communicate during difficult situations. Must be able to read and write in the English language.

COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS

Must be knowledgeable regarding OSHA regulations. Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.  Ability to trouble shoot and identify errors and breakdowns in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and construction. Willing to be licensed on warehouse equipment as needed. Basic computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and climb. Frequently required to speak and hear.  Regularly must lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 30 feet above the ground or floor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key job elements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in facilities maintenance, trades or similar preferred.  Must have a minimum of eight years’ experience in trades and facilities maintenance. Leadership experience and certification or license in a trade specialty area is preferred. Forklift certification preferred. Must maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is an in-house position with occasional travel.  Noise level is moderate to loud.  Work will include inside and outside tasks in various temperatures, locations, and conditions. Must be available for weekend or evening work dependent upon shared security responsibilities and deadlines. Must be able to pass a federal background check.
