Q. My child is pre-school age, and I want to help prepare her for attending school with her sighted peers in a year. Do you offer any programs that might be able to help with that?
A. Absolutely! CABVI's educational staff work closely with school districts to provide support to maximize your child's integration in the classroom. We offer a number of educational services, including a pre-school program that’s targeted on helping children prepare for the school-age classroom.
Q. I need to find a job, but I’m having a tough time because of my visual impairment. Can you help me?
A. Definitely! Know you are not alone. The unemployment rate for those with visual impairment is over 65%. One of the main objectives of CABVI is to help the blind and visually impaired find gainful employment. Our employment team can help. We offer employment choices, join our team in Central Industries or secure service from us to locate employment in your community.
Q. I’ve been diagnosed with macular degeneration. I find that reading is becoming very difficult, can you help?
A. CABVI is dedicated to helping people diagnosed with low vision make the most of the remaining vision they have. We’ll connect you with our specially trained low vision specialists who can provide you with the services you need to maximize your remaining vision.
Q. I just relocated to Central New York. I would like assistance learning how to get around, not only in my new home but also in my community. How can CABVI help?
A. Helping individuals who are blind or visually impaired get around safely is a top priority for CABVI. That's why we offer highly trained mobility instructors who will help you navigate safely in your home and all throughout your community.
Q. I know there have been many technological advances to help individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Can you recommend technological services that could help me?
A. CABVI offers a number of assistive technology services to assist you with your needs. CABVI’s assistive tech team will make recommendations based on your goals
