Central Industries SewingCentral Industries, the manufacturing and employment division of the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, continued its remarkable growth in 2007.

Central Industries employed 115 persons in 2007, 64 of who were blind or visually impaired. Central Industries added two product lines bringing the total to 27. We shipped these quality products to 11,282 customers around the country. Sales of Central Industries products increased 14 percent to $23 million while sales of products at the Base Supply Stores (Shipyard Express, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME, Galaxy Express at the Air Reserve Base in Westover, MA, Dolphin Express, at the Submarine Base in New London, CT) rose 17 percent to $2.9 million.

Many CABVI products manufactured by employees of Central Industries are sold Central Industries Glove Packagingunder agreement to agencies of the state and federal governments. Examples of these agencies are the New York State Department of Transportation, New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Central Industries is the sole supplier of examination gloves to the federal Transportation Security Administration for security screenings at 460 major airports across the United States.

Central Industries also partnered with the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology to offer a full range of environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Central Industries Sewing 2Our products include: medical supplies, file folders, pencils (custom imprintable), pens (several styles), examination gloves, rubber bands, textiles (sheets, towels, etc.), disposable cleaning cloths, safety vests.

Our contract services capabilities include: assembly, collating, packing from bulk, sewing, shrink wrap and heat seal packaging, sorting, weight counting, telecommunications center operation.
